on Sunday, November 6 at Miller-Stewart Funeral Home, 1003 South Main Street, Middlebury.įuneral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Walter enjoyed working in his yard on the landscaping and in the flower beds and was an avid baker. He served in the US Army from 1958 -1960 during the Cold War, stationed in Germany. He retired from Johnson Controls after 45 years. Walter was a member of Richville United Methodist Church and the American Legion Post 210 in Middlebury. He was preceded in death by his parents sister, Marvis Clark three half-sisters, Joan Baughman, Betty Nulf, Martha Moser three half-brothers, Warren, William, and Tom Hire. Survivors in addition to his wife are daughter, Jill (David) Miller of Goshen two sons, Brian (Patricia) Hire of Omaha, NE, Rodney (Nancy) Hire of Elkhart seven grandchildren, Bryce Miller, Nikolaus Miller, Ashley (Caleb) Mishler, Gracie Hire, Megan Hire, Shannon Hire, Carolyn Hire three sisters, Norma Stahley, Jane Wade, both of Elkhart, Joy Patrick of Wawaka brother, David Hire of Ligonier half sister-in-law, Dorothy Hire of Millersburg and his canine companion, Marley. On January 26, 1964, in Elkhart County, he married Shirley Weltz. He was born on December 23, 1935, in Elkhart County, to Walter and Edna (Dellinger) Hire. on Tuesday, November 1 at the Raclin House, Center for Hospice Care, Mishawaka.
